'Mathematics - a National Curriculum Reader' is an ambitious text designed to convert any anxiety over the subject into at least some appreciation of the power and beauty of mathematics. It is written for a moderately literate individual with a keenness to appreciate mathematics as prescribed by the National Curriculum - this would include a fairly capable student, a schoolteacher, various educationalists and a parent with offspring of school age. The style allows relaxed reading from cover to cover - pencil and paper are certainly not required but a calculator may be appreciated by the reader in order to check results. The structure is precisely that of the National Curriculum for Mathematics with three parts to the text, and chapters within, that follow an educational 'strand'. The book, stored on disk in A4 format (though hard copies are available), contains approximately seventy illustrations (generated through Word, Excel and graphics packages) and is easily expandable (with the addition of preface, contents and index) to approximately 150 pages of A5.
